PaRD Insights

COP 28: Faith Pavilion

This years’ UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) is a priority event for PaRD. We are excited to share that PaRD is able to play an active role in planning for the first ever Faith Pavilion to be held at a climate COP. While our Water, Environment and Climate Action (WECARE) Workstream has taken the lead, members in the Gender Equality, Health, Sustaining Peace and Food Security groups are contributing to the planning to help ensure a dynamic, diverse and relevant series of sessions to be hosted at the Faith Pavilion which will be situated in the Blue Zone. We are also very pleased to be working on this in close partnership with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Muslim Council of Elders, and the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), all of whom are some of the founders of the concept of the Faith Pavilion. More information, as well as an opportunity to help shape the programme of the Pavilion, will follow soon.

Customary and Informal Justice (CIJ)

PaRD members mobilised their networks to ensure a diverse set of voices could be amplified to inform a major report on customary and informal justice (CIJ) to be launched for the 2nd SDG Summit in September. The report, to be published by the International Development Law Organisation (IDLO), will present recommendations to policy makers and practitioners on the centrality of CIJ systems in achieving justice for all. Thanks to the strong networks within PaRD, over 20 representatives from six different religions or traditions across five continents have contributed to the consultation. Faith-based and traditional actors play a vital role in bridging the justice gap, by supporting people and communities to realise their rights and resolve conflicts, by influencing justice institutions and shaping justice discourses and frameworks, or as providers of justice through CIJ mechanisms. It is therefore crucial that the perspectives and priorities of diverse faith-based and traditional actors are reflected in the report and discussions at the Summit.
